Local nonprofit New Leaf Digital is partnering with Creative Exchanges Initiative, a Birmingham-based nonprofit, to host the Build an App for Haiti Causathon. This event is a fundraiser and innovation competition that will provide technical solutions to the challenges CEI faces in providing sustainable aid solutions to Haiti. We are proud to have Huntsville STEAM Works as the primary sponsor.
The nonprofits invite North Alabama community members to the Causathon event on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Real Estate Row at 1806 University Drive, Huntsville, Alabama. Food and drinks will be served.
The goal of the event is to start a movement of promoting healthy systemic change to Haiti through technology and Apps. We need subject matter experts, designers and engineers to come together on July 19 to Design an app with purpose to help coordinate the proper resources in Haiti.
A suitcase of donated shirts provided to an area can put the local retailer out of business. The app we want to create would help make sure that the right resources are needed in the right places, without killing the local economy – Our secondary goal is to raise money to get the app developed and promoted to continue the work started on the 19th.
“Relationships come first. We work on grassroots capacity building in a community to reach a tipping point of transformation quickly. So in everything we do, from goats to media, agriculture to art, we work to democratize power and create civic infrastructure,” said CEI’s CEO Catherine Parrill. “We are excited for Huntsville talent to make our dream a reality in bringing this vision to life.”
Community members not interested in participating in the competition are urged to attend to learn more about the work Creative Exchanges Initiative implements. Winners will be awarded cash prizes.
